Reviews
I’d like to start with: I RARELY write reviews.
There’s a certain level of customer service every customer deserves from their retail counterparts — what I received today was above and beyond. I recently purchased a pair of snowboard boots that I needed in hand by the end of the week. My call was strictly to see what the status of my order was. Online all it says was “shipped”, but it gave no detail as to where it was, how long it’ll take for me to receive, or anyway to contact corporate (by cell) to ask. It seemed like if I wanted answers , I’d have to draft an email, wait days for a response, and even then I’d have to be ok with the answer being “your product has been shipped and is in transit.” Because at the end of the day, there really was no tracking number.
My first thought was to call the store that I knew they were coming from…… That said, I called the wrong store (I called walnut creek and not SF like I should have), and a gentleman named Hector picked up the phone. At this point, he could’ve mentioned I called the wrong store, which is fair. He could’ve mentioned “it shows in transit” and to “please contact corporate by email with questions” — also fair. Instead, Hector stayed on the call with me, crossed the order time with when the shipment trucks pick up, dug some more and figured a rough estimate of when I would receive the boot, and added a footnote to the order letting the deliverer know that I will need my order by end of week. He also gave the deliverer multiple options on how we can make sure I get my boots in time. This isn’t Hectors job to do so, he doesn’t handle stock or transit — especially out of stores he isn’t located in. Hes not a manager or anything. Hes just a worker who wanted to see my order get to me in time.
This was all today. And at this point, I wouldn’t be mad if the boots didn’t arrive on time. Hector can’t control that nor can I. I’m leaving this review to show that the intention and care is there — and as a customer, that’s what I like to see. 10/10 experience.
Great place to shop and always has deals. I purchased a pair of skis, boots and binders. I am very happy with their staff, interaction, and knowledge. We usually rent our ski equipments from them as well. Highly recommended.
I went in for some new shoes and to window shop for a bike. The employees in the shoe department were super knowledgeable and able to help me select the correct shoes for my foot type. The bike salesman picked the perfect bike out for me and my needs. I know absolutely nothing about bikes, but felt like I received a quick training. No pressure to buy anything in any department. I'm excited to go back and purchase my bike this weekend.
Sports Basement in Walnut Creek is a great store for any sports related supplies and needs. I especially like the people in their bike department. They are all very helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are good and they frequently have very good sales promotions on quality items. Definitely an A +!
Went to Sports Basement to look for shoes for someone else i didn’t know the size of, also couldn’t seem to find the ones i was after but a very helpful associate named Ryan who was working the shoes department at the timehelped me immensely as he was the same age as the person i was gifting shoes to. Actually he was his age and they were about the same height/size and we put our heads together and settled on a size that would be the best bet for my buddy. Thank you Ryan for being such a help and even providing me with many different shoes that were similar to the ones i was after.
Is there a better sporting goods store in the area? I truly believe active people want great products at a good price without being flashy. And we certainly don’t want some marketing exec pushing brands at us that we don’t want (ie: Under Armour). Sports Basement has several locations and although they are clean and filled with products, the locations are not shiny and have old furniture inside for resting. The employees look like they belong outside on the trails or on a court or pool, which gives me a sense they know the products well. You get the same thing at REI, but I still like Sports Basement better especially since they have the Basement program that gives back to the community. Be sure to join. It really helps local people.
As a side note, someone crashed into my truck the last time I was there and a witness came running into the store so they could announce to everyone what happened. Thankfully, I heard the announcement and ran out to assess. The person was leaving me a note with her contact info so it all worked out. We are one community and Sports Basement is part of that hub.
Antonio in the bike shop is fantastic. I stopped off after riding Shell Ridge on my gravel bike (which I bought at SB). I was hearing brake noise. Antonio gave me a fast and affordable disc brake job. He explained everything clearly. Thanks Antonio and Sports Basement!
Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable are the words that best describe the staff. I was looking for a new pair of ski boots and Garrett was such a pro. These are the kinds of employees that just make shopping somewhere golden. If I want to save a few bucks, I can
shop online. But if I want knowledge about a product and service. nothing matches knowledgeable staff.
